Escape Style Test
When it all gets awkward, how do you run? (feat. the parapara challenge) ยท 12 questions ยท Free
There's a clip doing the rounds where a K-pop idol, asked to perform on a trip video with no music playing, simply launches into parapara โ a retro Japanese club dance of stiff, precise arm movements โ and then yells the name of the town she's in at the sky. That's the whole joke, and it turned into a challenge: when a moment gets awkward, don't answer it, just dance. It spread because everybody recognised it. We all have one of these. A move we make when the room turns.
Running isn't the problem. The direction is.
Avoidance gets treated as a character flaw, but in practice nobody stands still inside a moment they can't carry. The interesting question isn't whether you step back, it's which way you step. One person covers it with a laugh. One announces it at full volume and walks on. One goes quiet for four days. One opens a job board at 1 a.m. Same room, six different exits โ and six completely different things that would actually help.
The six escape styles
The Parapara Deflector, who changes the air instead of answering it. The Loud Owner, who says it first and loudest and moves on. The Head-On Grappler, who grabs hold rather than run. The Rewinder, who relives the scene at 2 a.m. The Silent Turtle, who goes under and resurfaces later. And the Escape Planner, who always has a tab open to somewhere else.
Twelve genuinely uncomfortable moments
The questions are the ones that make your shoulders rise just reading them: your mistake named in the group chat, "got a minute to talk?", the message you shouldn't have sent being marked as read. Your result covers how your particular exit works, what it buys you and what it costs, who you're easy with and who you quietly exhaust, plus one thing worth trying today.
This is entertainment, not a diagnosis โ a way of naming a reflex, not assessing a condition. If withdrawal has been running for weeks and is affecting your daily life, that's worth talking through with someone close to you or a professional. If it's your general state of mind you're curious about, the Stress Level Test is the better place to start.
